The Paralysis of Analysis

The Paralysis of Analysis
For many, if not most of us, the New Year is a time of evaluation, goal-setting and re-direction. Whether it involves a simple change in diet and exercise to restore a measure of health, or a new set of goals for our work or business, sometimes the overwhelming challenge of change can paralyze us into inactivity.
Psalm 18:32 is a great verse to focus on, as it reminds us that all successful change is empowered by God Himself:
“…it is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect.”
Or, as Paul wrote to the Philippians in Chapter 2:13:
“…it is God who works within you both to will and to do of His good pleasure.”
Notice that in both cases, the active source of the desired results is not the writer, but God Himself who strengthens, perfects, wills and empowers. As we seek to discover His perfect will for the New Year, we can find ourselves stumbling over the concept of a “perfect” will for our lives; we are so determined to get it right that we end up failing completely (hence the discarded exercise equipment cluttering up our garages….). Rather than seeking Him, we pursue activities and behavior instead.
My challenge to myself and to you is not to seek a new “plan,” instead, to seek His Person, living a life that honors Him in every aspect of every sphere in which we live. Whether at home, at school, at work, at play or whatever we do, we do all to the glory of God. If we do as suggested in Proverbs 3:6, and “acknowledge Him in all our ways” the result will be “straight paths”….easy to follow, hard to miss, and certain in their destination. Sounds like a good way to go, doesn’t it?
Our hope is that you will find encouragement and direction as you immerse yourself in Him, through His Word and prayer….and by listening to Thy Word Network. Everything we do is shaped to equip and enable you through the many ways we broadcast His Word…music, ministry, teaching, preaching and encouraging words. So don’t start the New Year paralyzed. Instead, be empowered!
