Christ Jesus Lives Today!

A New Symbol……
The universal symbol of Christianity has become the cross. In fact, it is so universal that it shows up in jewelry worn by almost anyone, Christian …or not. What once was a symbol of horrible death and sacrificial suffering has become totally unassociated with those themes. As one writer suggests, if we really knew what it stood for, we would as soon have an electric chair as our symbol around our neck or on our building in place of a cross.
As we come into the Easter Celebration season, I am reminded of a more fitting symbol for our faith…the symbol of an empty tomb. For no other religious group can claim the truth of Christianity---a risen, resurrected Savior. Even though men have tried for thousands of years to discredit the reality of His resurrection, none have succeeded.
In his book Forty Gospel Hymn Stories, author George W. Sanville records the story of songwriter A.H. Ackley’s response to a question from a young Jewish student, “Why should I worship a dead Jew?” His passionate response became a song that resonates the sincere truth of our faith:
He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today.
He walks with me and talks with me, along life’s narrow way.
He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives? He lives within my heart.
The question we need to ask ourselves is whether we show a lost and dying world the joy, the power of a resurrected Savior. The cross, a message of death, is superseded by the empty tomb, a symbol of life. More than that, it is a symbol of Eternal Life, ours through Jesus Christ our Lord!
He is risen!
He is risen indeed!!
